Soul Inheritance

I’d say many of us check our bank accounts, retirement accounts, or perhaps other forms of security several times per week (at least). We want to be one step ahead of the unknown. We want the satisfaction of a guaranteed future. We want to know we’re proactively building a safety net for whatever may come.

But how many times a day do we check on our spiritual investments? How many times a week do I ask myself, “what have I deposited or built up in the accounts of my eternal inheritance?” How often have I actually prayed this week, so that when I stand before Jesus, there will be no second thought that he knows me completely?

What we see with the human eye and mind tends to take precedence. Without noticing, we leave no space for what could be beyond our sight or understanding. Yes, we have limited visibility into the rate of return on our souls’ accounts. But we have to intentionally leave space for faith and the potential for growth that exceeds our realization. God is the ultimate managing director and knows where every piece is invested and what it will become.

““My thoughts,” says the Lord, “are not like yours, and my ways are different from yours. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways and thoughts above yours.” Isaiah‬ ‭55:8-9‬ ‭GNT‬‬

Will you ask him with me, to keep our sights set on the invisible? To take his word and following it as seriously as we would take evidence of a growth chart sitting in front of us.

Compassion Canada says in their “Postures of Advent: A Daily Christmas Devotional”:
“Remind us to keep our knees bent as we daily put You on Your rightful throne, laying down our desires to make our lives all about us.”

Let’s remember today that we have a Heavenly Father that so incredibly loves us. And because of that love, we have a guaranteed inheritance far greater than we can ever imagine or deserve. In fact, it cannot be earned by our own merit or performance. It simply requires us to give back to him what he’s already given us… through our time, our resources, our thoughts. Will you commit with me, to investing time each day to study his word and talk with him?
