Changing Planes

Just hours from take-off, and I’d been hit. A targeted strike, no doubt. This time, with more cruel vengeance than before. Welcome to a classic blow from my old, unwelcome friend… rejection. As if it wasn’t already part of daily life, this spirit finds the most opportune situations to kick my feet out from underneath and torture me for as long as I’ll allow. It haunts, invades, and is persistent until it sees the small white flag waving from my lifeless body. Its unrelenting use of my desire for acceptance is wicked and unfair.

But surely as the sun rises, God loves me too much to leave me where I lie. With his guidance, I render up the strength to rip the blinders off. I remember to notice the all powerful Holy Spirit always there, with an abundance of grace, rooting for me to get up. And at last, I do… and like clockwork the enemy slithers back into his ugly shadows.

As soon as he has retreated, I can see with clarity the tactics, the slyness, the inner workings of his plan. See, the enemy wants to keep us in forever bondage. He wants to keep us helplessly trapped in cycles of dysfunction. He wants to inject such a deep seed of rejection that it causes endless pain from one generation to the next. God forewarns us in Genesis 3:15: “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”(NIV‬‬).

But here is the rest of what God wants us to see… As you fight the good fight, as he carries you from battle to battle, the enemy is going to feel the heat. As you get closer to breaking the chains he’s held you captive with, he’s going to no doubt up his game.

But God is saying today: It’s time for you to level up too, my child. The destination I have for you… you cannot get to from here. It is time to board your new flight, and I’m here waiting for you at the gate with everything you need. Drop your former things and pick up the brave torch of hope for those that follow you. “Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’ Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth— everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made… See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43:5-7, 19‬ ‭NIV

You have the responsibility not to give up. You have been brought down to low places, but I have given you my power to rise higher and realize your potential. You can’t fight the next battle on the same plane of thinking, not when you’re this close to victory. It’s a war and I’ve already won it. I’m here with you now. And I’ll be waiting for you on the other side too. I will never leave you nor forsake you. I need you to regain your focus. Eyes up, child. Eyes on me. My plans for you are higher than anything or anyone at the level that you’re trying to prove yourself on.

It’s time to stop opening the door for rejection. It’s time to stop endlessly seeking approval from other sources. It’s time to truly know your identity in me. You are part of my chosen, royal nation. You are my shining warrior in a dark and suffering world. It’s time to take up your weapons. It’s time to courageously rise up, step up, and change planes. 🤍 ☁️
