Today, let’s dive into the “rate” at which an investment grows. Are you still with me?? I dearly hope so! This one has proved to be the easiest to write, yet the hardest to live out for me. I have spent years upon years running, working, striving, to maintain a pace that my mind somehow believes my body and soul will not grow weary of. A pace (or rate) at which I can feel busy enough to superficially validate my worth to the world. But remember (aka note to self)… that’s not how God values us. His value of us is based strictly on his value of us. And we don’t have the ability or the authority to speed that up or slow that down. The rate at which I’m growing in a season may look entirely different than yours. But we are both moving at the exact calculated rate God has already determined we would be at this moment. Our job is to obey him at his word and he, in return, will handle the pace of our journey.
Psalms 46:10 says it perfectly: “Surrender your anxiety! Be silent and stop your striving and you will see that I am God. I am the God above all the nations, and I will be exalted throughout the whole earth.” (TPT). I honestly do not believe that the goal here is to completely stop and do nothing, out of fear or worry. But I believe it means we need to stop constantly spinning around in circles, looking for our own solutions and responses when we don’t immediately see how God is working.
How do we accomplish this though? The mere ability to become aware that we are starting to spin out of control is a huge step. The next step, I believe, is to trace back to the point at which we lost control of our behavior and/or thoughts. If we dare venture further, we should continue digging into who or what we may be comparing ourselves to. This is usually where I find myself falling prey to the death grip of “I’m not enough”.
Finally, we should begin to take control of the direction of our thoughts by immersing our minds in the absolute truth. God cannot lie and his word is where we find the that truth. I pray that you would take these steps with me in putting God’s truth back in its rightful place… above comparison, worry, fear, and striving.
Lord, thank you that we don’t have to constantly strive for perfection and that you love us all just the same, no matter what track we’re on.
